Artists, kinds of art, and styles
So, today I bring you another personal reflection on artists and their styles.
Again, I am most of all, looking forward to hear people's opinions on this matter. So, leave a comment and express your points of view on this matter.
As always, whenever I write a new journal to either manifest, complain, or simply give an opinion, it's usually triggered by something that I took notice earlier. This time, it was people completely changing their art style or their objectives, in other to please others.
While this may seem exagerated just by the sheer fact that it is just me saying so, most of you will agree that at a given point, some artist you watched just stopped posting the art that you loved, and stopped posting other kinds of things. And I'm not talking about broadening your horizons, that is an enriching experience for every artist. I'm referring in particular to cutting back completely on your older objectives of work.
I could refer an endless list of possible motives for an artist to do so. They usually say it themselves, whether they personally believe it or not. "Why am I not getting much attention?", "Is my current art not good enough for people?", "Is it a problem to be a wolf artist?". Yes, I bet you too hear this A LOT.
My question to those artists, and to people who read this journal is: Are you here to please others and get attention, or are you here to please yourself? What was the motive that made you get into making art (of any kind) in the first place? Are you ashamed of your art? If art is a reflection of the artist, should you be ashamed of yourself?
Let's read what people have to say on this matter.
I personally believe that the purpose of making art, is me feeling good about it, and liking it. Regardless of how many watchers I have, I know these people like my art for what it is. I bet some of them would probably be disappointed if from one moment to the other, I just started drawing humans, cars, landscapes, whatever. And I like my art for what it is: It's my accomplishment, not anyone else's.

Devious Comments
When I began posting on DevArt, I really wasn't all that fantastic and man I knew that then just as much as I know it now. But everything I've ever drawn has always been something from deep inside me. Sure attention is nice, but I think it's a shame when I see artists doing just what you said. DA has turned into a popularity contest, which is what it should not be at all. It's a community, a cohesive group of people sharing similar and yet at the same time vastly different beliefs and insight on the world around them.
The point of a place like DA is to bring together these different people under a general similar interest, ours being art. And the point of it is just that, diversity, to enrich ourselves in the arts and loves and feelings of other people and cultures. But now we've got people who go, oh that's cooler? I wanna be cooler! *Draws "cooler" stuff* and totally abandon the point of a community like DA. Which is not to conform us to certain styles and standards for the sake of being "liked"
Besides, when you're true to yourself and your own feelings and natural style, people are more likely to look at and appreciate your pieces. But the biggest thing to remember is it's not about what those people think, it's whether, when this art comes out onto paper, are YOU happy with it? Does it come from your heart? Do YOU think it's beautiful?
That's why I've always posted what I draw for myself. And just the fact of knowing it's out there in the big old world and somebody may stumble across it and enjoy it someday is enthralling for me. x3
And that was my rant. XDDD

And
For the most part while I'm here I wanna try to impress people and enjoy art with them, but now it's turned more into a goal to see how far I can go and surpass those I believed to be out of my league.
And when I look back, I wanna see all the good times and have a huge scrapbook of my art and friends and remember every second of it.

...and if it moves... kill it.
My point was that some artists seem to just give up on the things they enjoyed so much, just to get some attention from other angles... Like anthro artists, who don't do anthro anymore, because they felt somewhat "discriminated" on dA, or so.

But yeah I totally get what you mean. And as a person who tries to do what they love it makes me sad.
And yeah. there's a huge difference in changing in the sense of developing yourself as an artist, and changing your style altogether because you feel your art dosn't fit the popular criteria.
I'm totally against all this popularity contest. I want people to see my page because i like my art and i wanna share it. I want people to see my page so I can further myself in getting commissions and the such. Etc. etc.
