Art Status Update - Commissions Opened



Yes. You read it right. Who here does not know the old game Asteroids*! I'm having a university project to develop, which is a clone of the game asteroids. Now, while the teacher (obviously) wants my group to develop the game on our own, he mentioned we can add extras to the game. I came up with the idea of making some graphic menu for the game. Won't be easy, but that's up to me.

THIS IS WHERE YOU ALL PLAY A PART!

I want you to make me a possible design for the main menu! Put your imagination to work, take into account the fact that it must be as much appealing as possible without forgetting user friendlyness! All you need to do is a non functional concept of how the menu should be! Draw a ship, draw characters, do something to make us (and the professors) proud!

The menu / artwork size must be 1600*1200 or superior, attending to the fact that it must keep a 4:3 size ratio

The theme of the artwork can be anything, from anthro to generic sci-fi. Just don't wander off too much. Keep a nice theme, related to the subject. Detail of the artwork will be valued.

The menu items must be vertically arranged, and left aligned. They may be anywhere on the screen. They are comprized of the following items:
{New Game, Hi Score, Options, Credits, Quit}

You are given the possibility to name the game yourself, and include a graphic title in your concept (which is encouraged). If you can't find an appropriate name, "Orion's Belt" seems a nice name. Again, you are encouraged to come up with your own. Before coming up with your own name, you can note me to make sure we like it, it's in our best interest to have a good title!

When you submit your entry to dA or any other sites, do it on a low scale and watermarked. When you note me with the entry you will be provided an e-mail address where you must send (AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT) your work in Photoshop .psd format OR The Gimp format.

Inside the file you e-mail to us, we value the organization of it. Now, while you don't need to be naming layers and stuff, we value the fact that you keep every element in a separate layer (title, menus, background, artwork, etc...) so we can make arrangements to them / separate them. It's likely that your work will be changed around a little to suit our needs.

My characters are not allowed into the contest.

The contest will finish on May 24th 2008, at 23:59 GMT. The contest deadline has been extended, as we have been granted 15 more days to deliver the project.

Judges to this contest will be ~ritxinha, me and another coleague of ours.

HINT: We have a special love for black/dark backgrounds!

SPECIAL RULE: You may submit artwork only, and we will handle the menu interface. This rule has been implemented because many people don't seem to have experience on both subjects. Using this rule will not affect our judgement of your work. Please, stick to the size specified on the above rules!

If there are only three or fewer submissions to the contest, we will probably cancel it or extend the deadline (unlikely). In case of cancelation, your work is yours to keep, and will not be used by us without your permission first.





The winner of the contest will win:

Probably have it's work made into the menu of the game, and his name / gallery link into the credits.

A full body picture of a character of your choice, fully coloured and shaded. (by me).


There will also be two runner ups which will win:

A free inked picture of a character of a character of your choice OR a full coloured headshot of a character (for a dA icon for example).


Also, everyone who participates will have it's work featured on this journal.



* Keep in mind this game is a non-lucrative college project, and will be viewed by around 500 students and university teachers (if it makes it into the hall of fame - top best projects). Participation on such a project is great for your portfolio and curriculum!

Howdy everyone!

At this point, I watch almost 200 people, so I needed to do some organizing on my Friends List. Now, while I did not remove anyone from the watch list, and I don't intend to, I did uncheck the "friend" box for everyone, so it doesn't crowd my friend list on the front page (which I enabled) and to give my dA friends some special appreciation.

This said, if you consider yourself a "close" friend, and would like to be added to that list, leave a comment or note me! BUT PLEASE, DO SAY SOMETHING! Because as you might figure, I didn't have the patience to look through all the 200 deviants and select them one by one XD

So I say again PLEASE SAY SOMETHING!

Also, I dunno if someone did, but in case you received a message saying I removed you from my friends list or something like that, WARN ME AS WELL. That's not what I intended and if that's the case, I'll restore everything to the way it was before.
